JOIN THE GLOBAL YOUTH NETWORK FOR ROAD SAFEY
The network as basis of YOURS, the global youth NGO for road safety

In preparing for the launch in late 2009 of YOURS, the global youth NGO for road safety, a network has been created of youth-led road safety organizations. The network is a very important stepping stone towards the creation of the global youth NGO for road safety. We see the youth network as the fundament of the NGO, where our most important stakeholders are represented: the YOUTH. As part of this network you are a 'member' of the NGO and will work together with the rest of the network to keep young people safe on our roads.

Once firmly established as an NGO, YOURS will be a unique, global, youth-led organization that acts to keep young people safe on the world’s roads. It will do so by: advocating for youth-related road safety issues nationally, regionally and especially globally; connecting young people and youth NGOs active in the road safety field around the world, so they can work together and easily share information and experiences; and building capacity among youth in the road safety field.

Why should we join forces?

Road traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among young people and every year, road traffic crashes kill more than 400,000 young people and injure millions more. In order to change this situation, we (young people) face several challenges:
  • A lack of awareness and recognition in the world of the vulnerable position of young people in traffic.
  • A lack of global coordination and collaboration among youth and youth-led NGO's and their road safety initiatives. Youth road safety initiatives remain small-scaled and scattered.
  • A lack of one strong voice to advocate on the behalf of youth and road safety.
  • A lack of resources for youth road safety programmes.
  • A lack of a next generation of leaders who are passionate about road safety and involved in decision making within the road safety field.
  • A lack of capacity building. Road safety knowledge and best practices from youth initiatives are not shared in a broader network. Besides this, programmes targeting youth and road safety are commonly not evidence-based.
We must join forces on a global level to make a difference, together as one! Road safety does not stop at our borders.

What is in it for you?
  • Team-up: The youth network will provide you with the opportunity to learn from your 'teammates - colleagues' around the world that may face the same issues you are facing. This will help you to find solutions and interesting approaches to tackle the road safety issues in your country. You can also help your colleagues by sharing your knowledge and experiences.
  • International Representation: Your issues and needs may be raised with other international organizations such as the United Nations: World Health Organization, the different networks of the UNRSC, etc.
  • Visibility: As a member of YOURS you will have global visibility through the various mediums of YOURS such as the web site, future publications or at international workshops and presentations. By joining YOURS your international exposure will send a message to stakeholders and governments that you are committed to helping to change the international situation of youth and road safety.
  • Credibility: The more strong members we have, the more credible we will be as a network and the more influence we will have.
The bigger the network, the more we can do for you, because we are YOURS.
