| Auto driver rams into SP’s car |
A drunken auto-rickshaw driver today rammed his vehicle into the official car of UT SP (Operations and Vigilance) RS Ghumman near the UT Secretariat in Sector 9 here this morning.
The police said the auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Sita Ram, a resident of Kaimbwala village, was reckless and was driving on the wrong side. The police reached the spot and apprehended the auto-rickshaw driver. His medical examination proved that he was drunk and a case has been registered against him. He was later released on bail. |

Irate residents set vehicle afire, block road
Seven members of a family were killed when a truck overturned and fell on the Maruti van they were travelling in at Machgar village, about 5 km from here, today.
The deceased have been identified as Chandrawati(58), her daughter Mamta (30), daughter-in-law Bhawna (25), and her grandchildren — eight-month-old Dhruv, Sanyogita (2), Abhijeet (7) and Abhi (5). |

| 28 of wedding party electrocuted in MP |
Twenty-eight people, mostly women, travelling in a wedding party, were electrocuted and charred to death when their minibus came in contact with a high-voltage wire and turned into a ball of fire in the tribal district of Mandla, 550km from Madhya Pradesh's capital, on Friday.
Police said the accident took place when metal objects and furniture like almirah, etc, on the roof of the ill-fated bus caught the overhead power line near Surajpur village. A total of 34 baratis, all tribals, were inside the bus. Six of the injured are now in Mandla district hospital.

Police say 15 villagers have died in eastern India after the truck they were riding in touched a high-voltage wire.

A 19-year-old woman who was seriously hurt after being ejected from a car in Mississauga was not wearing her seatbelt, police say.

| Ten people were killed and nine injured in an accident on the Pune-Satara highway in Maharashtra on Monday. The accident occurred at around 4.30 am, when the tyre of a jeep suddenly burst, causing it to overturn. Another speeding vehicle hit the jeep from the back, which then hit the wall of a new tunnel in the highway, killing all ten passengers. The jeep was on its way to Mumbai from Satara. |

| Five killed in road accident near Indore |
At least five people, including a woman, were killed and an equal number injured when the SUV in which they were travelling collided head on with a speeding truck at Dewas Gate near here, police said Sunday.
The collision took place late Saturday when the car was on its way to Bhopal from Indore. All those killed were among the ten passengers in the SUV and died on the spot.

| 34 killed as bus falls into gorge |
An overcrowded private bus fell into a 200-ft-deep gorge which claimed lives of 34 passengers and left 32 critically injured this morning. The dead include six children, 13 females and 15 males.

All nine occupants of a private Scorpio (HP-22-2907) were feared dead when the driver allegedly lost control over it while overtaking another Scropio (HP-33T-9308) near Dawada curve and plunged straight into the Beas at around 2.30 am today.

| 27 killed in J&K bus accident |
At least 27 passengers were killed and 22 injured when the bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway around 1.10 pm today. The ill-fated bus, which left Doda bus stand around 11.45 am, was on its way to Jammu when the accident took place.
Mubassar Latifee, SP, Ramban, told The Tribune that 21 passengers were killed on the spot, while four others succumbed to their injuries on their way to Batote from Assar hospital. Two passengers later died at the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, after being airlifted from Batote.
