Campaign for Amendment in Law – Driving under the influence of drink or drugs

17 August 2010 - 25 August 2010, Chandigarh, India

Running a sustained campaign to amend and make Law more stringent in cases of causing death of any person through driving under the influence of drink or drugs. These cases should not merely be deemed to have been committed in a rash or negligent manner, but be made an offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder punishable under section 304, IPC (Indian Penal Code).

ArriveSAFE has taken up this issue with the Law Commission of India in August 2008 but a high-profile case fuelled this campaign. The accused driver, allegdly drunk, fled and left two youngsters to die on the road and surrendered the next day. The accused was just booked for rash or negligent and was granted bail much to the residents of the City and neighbouring states.
