Cops Get Strict on Traffic Violations

Dated: 6 Jan 2014

ALLAHABAD: With increasing road mishaps and casualties being reported on city streets and connecting highways, the traffic police have stepped up to monitor road safety measures and decided to check the speed limit of vehicles at 17 identified spots.

The checks, traffic police authorities feel, will curb the graph of road mishaps in the region. In the past 72 hours, the police have penalized more than 310 people for various violations. Of these, 40% were taken to task for violating speed limit norms.

Traffic inspector Indrapal Singh said, “We have been constantly appealing to people to maintain speed limit after acknowledging that violation of speed limit is one of the prime causes behind road accidents, fatal and non-fatal”. The department has also taken up road safety measures on routes where maximum incidences were reported, he added.
